Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Group - Welcome Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Group Toggle navigation Welcome About Services Patient Education Locations Testimonials Contact We provide personalized care with experience, commitment, and compassion. We help patients navigate reproductive medicine. We provide individualized patient-centered care. We support the balance of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. We believe that every patient should be treated with respect and dignity. About Our Practice What is a Fertility Specialist? Fertility Specialists are physicians who have pursued additional training for the medical or surgical treatment of infertility. They devote all or a very large percentage of their practice to treating infertility. An individual Fertility Specialist may also be a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE), a physician trained first in Obstetrics and Gynecology, then fellowship-trained for at least two additional years in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Kaplan is both, working full-time with all aspects of infertility in this rapidly evolving field. Her experience in treatment, and commitment to helping women and men have children, speaks for itself. Dr. Carolyn Kaplan Dr. Kaplan is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology. She has been helping stressed out patients overcome problems with infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss and hormonal problems for more than 25 years. Dr. Kaplan is passionate about finding the right treatment for each and every patient. She focuses on natural fertility and hormonal balance through healthy lifestyle, dietary counseling, fertility education, stress reduction and judicious use of medication. She also has a long history of working with OB/GYN and primary care physicians to provide comprehensive care. Dr. Kaplan has lived and worked in Atlanta since 1993 when she joined Emory’s Center for Reproductive Medicine as faculty. Since then she has had 2 wonderful sons, started and enjoyed a successful IVF practice where she learned the importance of a more holistic and integrative approach to medicine. This led to her starting REIG, which focuses on individualized patient-centered care. Her joy is in helping women and men achieve their goal of having children. Cirriculum Vitae Janet Handy Janet has been involved in medicine since 1982 she started as a receptionist at Emory Rehab. She's managed several practices and in 1999 formed Handy Consulting Group in an effort to assist physicians in their quest to achieve better control of their medical practices. Janet's unique approach with medical management gives physicians an opportunity to start new practices and grow their practice in a streamlined & more efficient manner. Janet's passion is acting & singing. She's a local Atlanta actress with 3 movies to her credit and several local and national commercials. She's a wife, mother of 4 grown children and 2 adorable grand baby girls. Carldarone Wynn I graduated from Columbus State University with my Bachelors degree in Communication in the summer of 2013. Since graduating, I have come into my own working for Handy Consulting Group as a staff consultant. As a communication major, interacting with others has always been a passion of mine. A lot of people think that communication is only verbalized, when really, the most inportant aspect is listening. By being able to discern exactly what's needed in a busy office environment is paramount to the success of said practice. Working with Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Group, I have the opportunity to listen both to patients as well as Dr. Kaplan to provide the best service I can for the practice. In my spare time I like to travel both inside and outside of the country with my wife, as well as take my dog Diego (pictures here) on walks at State Parks. Myths About Reproductive Endocrinologists Myth: “If I see a reproductive endocrinologist, I’m going to need IVF.” BUSTED! : IVF is actually one of the least common infertility treatments performed. It consists of less than 5 percent of all fertility treatments in the United States. Reproductive Endocrinologists (REs) should reserve IVF for patients who absolutely need it. If there is a severe sperm problem, or if a woman’s fallopian tubes are blocked or absent, then IVF may be the only option for a woman to conceive. Some REs may pressure couples to proceed with IVF, even though other fertility therapies may lead to success. The most common include fertility drug therapy, IUI (intrauterine insemination) treatment, and surgical procedures, such as hysteroscopy and laparoscopy that correct anatomical problems. All of these treatments cost far less than IVF and are not as emotionally taxing – making all of this good news. Bottom line: do not jump to the conclusion that you will need IVF treatment to have a baby. Only if you have a medical condition or other predisposing situation that makes IVF necessary should you go directly to IVF treatment. Otherwise less expensive and invasive options should be discussed first. Myth: All reproductive endocrinologists are the same. BUSTED! : Reproductive Endocrinologists are doctors who have completed an OB/GYN residency as well as a Reproductive Endocrine fellowship. Most REs and OB/GYNs are certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and have to re-certify yearly. This recertification means that your doctor is up to date with the latest medical science. You can inquire about board certification before your visit. Every reproductive endocrinologist (RE) has his or her own style and it is important that you find one you are comfortable with. Good “bedside manner” can help reduce the stress of treatment, and can lead to a better outcome. You should also think about whether you prefer a male or female doctor. Don’t be afraid to ask about alternative treatments to IVF, and how success rates may compare over time. And one last note: after you have begun to see a fertility specialist, if you feel like he or she isn’t the right fit for you after all, change doctors! You should not feel uncomfortable or worry that you will hurt other’s feelings. You owe it to yourself to create the best possible environment for you to have a baby.
